Plants crying for help in a changing world

WP4: Towards translation: sustainable practices in agriculture

In these experimental trials the overall goal is to evaluate how different factors affect plant resilience and persistence in soil, which can help researchers develop strategies to enhance plant growth and improve crop yields in the future.

Task “4.1” Integrate plant targets in diagnostic kits (France): (30 person months), based on the results obtained in the WP3, selected plant metabolites “responsive to” stress or “indicative of” tolerance will be included in the diagnostic tools developed by AKINAO.
Task “4.2” Pilot fermentation/ formulation trials/ seed coating (France): (24 person months), based on the results obtained in the WP3, selected microorganisms “responsive to” stress or “indicative of” tolerance will be fermented, formulated and used for seed coating or direct soil inoculation.
Task “4.3” Field and Eco Oasis trials to assess effect on plant resilience and persistence in soil (Spain): (25 person months), the field trial in a real-world setting, at the experimental station “La Mayora” will allow us to observe the plants under natural environmental conditions, which can provide valuable insights into how they might perform in real-world applications. The Eco Oasis trial will allow us to manipulate certain variables to isolate and study specific factors affecting plant resilience and persistence in soil. This trial can provide a more controlled environment for the researchers to study the effects of specific variables on plant growth and survival.

Description of deliverables: D15 – Selection of biomarkers confirming the plant-microbe interactions, D16 – Trials to formulate microbial targets, D17 – Field and Eco Oasis trials using selected microbial targets. The main outcomes of this WP will be to evaluate the effectiveness of the SynCom and the accuracy of the selected biomarkers. Altogether will help us to understand the factors that impact plant growth and resilience.
