Dr. Ioannis Stringlis

 Assistant Professor, AUA

Ioannis and his team´s research is focused on the communication of plants with beneficial and pathogenic members of the microbiome. In AUA, he aims to establish a research line about the interplay between plants, pathogens and the microbiome during disease. His role in the project is the supervision of the experiments, guidance in data analysis and the writing of the project reports and publications.

Team of AUA

Dafni Paraskevopoulou

PhD candidate

Dafni is a PhD student at the laboratory of Phytopathology at the Agricultural University of Athens.

Her research is focused on plant-microbe interactions and specifically on plant defense and rhizosphere microbiome contributing to the resistance against soil-borne phytopathogens.

Dr. Styliani Chorianopoulou

Assistant Professor

Dr. Styliani Chorianopoulou is an assistant professor in the field of Plant Nutrition at the Laboratory of Plant Physiology and Morphology in the Agricultural University of Athens

Styliani her research interest is on the iron homeostasis in plants with a a specialization on the study of the morphological, anatomical, physiological, and molecular responses of maize plants to iron deficiency.

Eirini Poulaki

PhD candidate

Eirini is a PhD candidate at the laboratory of Phytopathology at the Agricultural University of Athens.

Her research interests center on plant-microbe interactions, particularly focusing on the role of bacterial-emitted volatile organic compounds in the biological control of soil-borne pathogens.

Vasilis Dimitrakas

PhD candidate & Technical staff

Vasilis is working as technical staff and PhD candidate at at the laboratory of Phytopathology at the Agricultural University of Athens.

He is studying plant-microbe interactions and the biological control of soil-borne pathogens.

Idyli Charatsidou

PhD candidate

Idyli is a PhD student at the laboratory of Phytopathology at the Agricultural University of Athens.

Her work focusses on iron homeostasis on plants, especially on root phenotyping and structure – function relationship, under conditions of iron deficiency.

Dr. Panagiota Bresta

Assistant Professor

Dr. Panagiota Bresta is an assistant professor of Functional Plant Anatomy-Electron Microscopy in the Laboratory of Electron Microscopy at Agricultural University of Athens

My research interests focus on genotypic variability (adaptation) and phenotypic plasticity (acclimation) of plant anatomical traits (subcellular to organ level), structure-function coordination and its role in photosynthetic performance and water transport under abiotic stress conditions.

Dr. Sotiris Tjamos

Professor

Dr. Sotiris Tjamos, works as a Professor in the Phytopathology Lab of the Agricultural University of Athens. He has published more than 50 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and has served as the principal investigator in several research projects funded by private and state funds.

His work is focused on biological control of plant diseases and plant – pathogen interactions. The last years he works on the development of innovative disease control strategies, towards a sustainable agriculture.

Chrysoula (Chrysa) Pantazopoulou

Research staff & lecturer

Chrysa is a Research Staff member and lecturer from the Laboratory of Plant Physiology and Morphology at the Agricultural University of Athens.

Her research focuses on how plants perceive light and mechanical signals from neighboring plants and adjust their phenotype accordingly. My core areas include plant-plant competition, shade avoidance, and mechano-stimulation responses. Through my work, I aim to uncover the intricate mechanisms that enable plants to adapt and thrive in their environments.

Dr Anastasia (Natasa) Venieraki

Research staff & lecturer

Natasa is a Research Staff member and lecturer from the Laboratory of Plant Pathology, Department of Crop Science at the Agricultural University of Athens.

Her research center on biological control of plant diseases with particularly focusing on endophytic and rhizosphere bacteria and fungi competitive against plant pathogens, bacterial cell adaptation to stress conditions, host-phytopathogen-biological agent interactions, studies of compatibility of antagonistic agents in mixtures, and bacterial genomic and metabolomic analysis. From her research 35 articles have been published so far in peer-reviewed journals.
